Iyer Appointed Pediatric Outreach Program Medical Director
Emergency Service Partners, a founding partner of US Acute Care Solutions, is pleased to announce that Dr. Sujit Iyer has been named Pediatric Outreach Program Medical Director. In this new role, Dr. Iyer will provide medical and administrative leadership and will be the point person and consultant for planning, development, and implementation of pediatric branded emergency departments at Seton Medical Center Hays (Kyle), Seton Northwest Hospital (Austin), Seton Medical Center Williamson (Round Rock), and Providence Health Center (Waco). The Seton Healthcare Family is in the process of expanding its pediatric services by taking the Dell Children’s Medical Center experience to these outlying Seton/Ascension facilities in Central Texas.
Dr. Iyer has been a pediatric emergency physician at Dell Children’s since joining ESP in 2009. His role has grown to encompass academic responsibilities as well, serving as associate program director of the University of Texas Dell Medical School Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship since its inception in 2013. He is also the clerkship director for the pediatric rotation of the UT Austin Emergency Medicine Residency. Dr. Iyer has held academic appointments in pediatrics at the UT Austin Dell Medical School (formerly UT Southwestern) and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He has also been an instructor in the Department of Statistics at UT Austin and in the Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Iyer is involved in a number of ongoing research activities and quality improvement projects, and he has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and educational materials.
His achievements have been recognized both in academia and beyond. Dr. Iyer is the recipient of multiple teaching awards, including being voted the 2016 Faculty Teacher of the Year for the UT Austin Dell Medical School Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship. He was also named the winner of the 2016 Austin Under 40 award for health care.
Dr. Iyer earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry (with honors) from the University of Texas at Austin and received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed his pediatric residency at Texas Children’s Hospital, where he was named chief resident, before completing a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Apart from his clinical work, Dr. Iyer serves as a board member of the Ronald McDonald House of Central Texas.
