Hotel Suite Named for Dr. Coburn Allen

Dr. Coburn Allen cuts the ribbon on a new hotel suite named in his honor. The space will benefit families of pediatric patients at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas.

The new Marriott Residence Inn near Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin has opened a new suite dedicated to patients’ families–and named in honor of Emergency Service Partners physician and board member Dr. Coburn Allen.

The hotel space is designed to relieve the financial burden of families with a child in the hospital who need lodging free of charge for up to three nights, but who do not qualify to stay at the nearby Ronald McDonald House.

“The heart of this is to take care of people who are really confused, hurting, overwhelmed — coming to our hospital and really not prepared for what’s happening — and need a place to get some rest and get some food, to really recover and take care of their own kids,” Allen told KXAN-TV.

A plaque next to the door of the suite honors Allen “for his commitment to promoting and providing accessible healthcare, education, and nutrition programs to under-served populations.”

In addition to his work as a pediatric emergency physician at Dell Children’s, Allen is recognized as an infectious disease specialist. He has also worked extensively to set up a clinic for children in Haiti and adopted a Haitian orphan a few years ago.
