Mendelson Named ED Medical Director at CHRISTUS St. Michael

David Mendelson, MDEmergency Service Partners, L.P. is pleased to announce that David Mendelson, MD has been named the new Emergency Department Medical Director at CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, TX, effective November 1, 2016. He succeeds Dr. Robert Wycoff, who is resigning his leadership position to pursue other opportunities. Dr. Wycoff has served as the ED medical director at CHRISTUS St. Michael since August 2013.

A noted clinical and business leader in emergency medicine, Dr. Mendelson brings wide-ranging experience to this important leadership role. His emergency medicine practice began in New Jersey and California and ultimately led him to Texas. From 2010 to 2015 he served as an Executive Vice President leading a management team for hospital-based emergency medicine, hospitalist, and anesthesia practices in Texas and Louisiana. Under a strong culture of accountability, his team created many processes and methods of measuring performance from throughput to patient safety and satisfaction to drive change and build positive local cultures.

Dr. Mendelson was elected to serve as president of the Texas College of Emergency Physicians from 2009 to 2010. In addition, he has served as president of a Dallas consulting company, served as a chief medical officer, and founded a physician and APP education company. He is also the creator and author of risk management education and quality tools that dramatically decreased malpractice claims rates across 300 hospitals. He has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally on emergency medicine educational topics as well as on ED operations and leadership.

Dr. Mendelson is a board-certified emergency physician, a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners. He earned his bachelors and master’s degrees from Portland State University and his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University. Following his residency training in emergency medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, he completed a fellowship in emergency medicine administration. He has since held a number of academic appointments, including Assistant Clinical Professor at UT Southwestern/Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
