Colvin offers parents six tips to keep in mind when deciding whether to bring their child to the ED. Among the signs parents should watch out for, Colvin says, are head injuries that produce vomiting, confusion, large swelling to the scalp, or atypical irritability; injuries resulting in laceration; fever that continues more than a couple of days or results in the child not eating or drinking; and severe allergic reactions.
