Vira Named Smithville ED Medical Director

Amar Vira MDAmar Vira, MD has been appointed the Emergency Department Medical Director at Seton Smithville Regional Hospital in Smithville, TX, effective August 1, 2016. He assumes this vital leadership role following the recent resignation of Dr. Bennie Fore, who has chosen to focus on his clinical practice and plans to continue working at Seton Smithville.

Since joining Emergency Service Partners, L.P. in 2015, Vira has worked in the emergency departments of Seton Northwest Hospital in Austin and Seton Edgar B. Davis Hospital in Luling. A board-certified emergency physician, he has served on the Seton Northwest/Seton Medical Center Austin Trauma Council. Before coming to ESP, Vira served as Clinical Assistant Professor, Ultrasound Quality Assurance at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Vira earned his bachelor’s degree in anthropology and global health at Northwestern University, and his medical degree from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Arizona Medical Center, South Campus, where he was chief resident and earned the Maria C. Mandell Memorial Award for top resident research presentation. He also served as National Residency Program Representative for the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA).

Following his residency training, Vira completed an emergency ultrasound fellowship at The Ohio State University, and the majority of his research focuses on the use of ultrasound. Among his accomplishments, he organized and managed an ultrasound management course for more than 200 participants at the American College of Emergency Physicians Scientific Assembly in Boston in 2015.
